Lenten Study: Wednesdays, 6:00 pm

Behold, the Lamb of God

A Five-Week Lenten Study on the “Atonement”

A reflection on this past Wednesday’s study
Lent 2-   Isaiah 53
We explored God’s amazing act of redemption as prophesied in Isaiah, and we looked at Christ as the Lamb of God who accurately fulfills this prophecy.  Jesus bears our infirmities and sorrows as the “Suffering Servant.”  As Isaiah writes, “He is stricken and afflicted, pierced for our transgressions and crushed for our iniquities.”

This Coming Wednesday
Lent 3-   1 Peter 1:18-19
We will explore a persistent Old Testament theme, that of slavery and redemption.  Jesus, Paul and Peter all pick up this theme to describe our deliverance from bondage to sin through the person and work of Christ.  Peter writes, “…we are redeemed from an empty way of life… by the precious Blood of the Lamb.”  Paul writes, “…we are bought at a price.”  We will also study the Old Testament story of Ruth, and how Boaz is Ruth’s “Kinsman-Redeemer.”  Jesus is our Kinsman-Redeemer.
